Midsummer celebration

Life in Myken is a good life. Time has its own pace. The characteristic scenery with lots of birds and a spectacular richness of wild flowers surround you when you stroll along the road on a summers day. And if you go out in a boat, chances are very good that you will catch first class fish for a tasty meal in just a few minutes.

In summer, people gather in Myken. The famous summer café, Karenstua Kafé, is a popular meeting point for locals and visitors, offerering excellent food and beverages. A visit there is a must if you don’t mind having a good time with lots of singing and laughing. People are very friendly and most of them speak English.

The fisheries used to be the main source of income for the inhabitants of Myken years back. Today, fishermen from other places are using Myken as a base, landing their catches here. Myken is the only fishing village left in the region and is therefore important as such.

Myken Handel, the grocery store, provides whatever is needed for everyday life. Special goods take just a bit longer to get, and sometimes just a few hours. It is a good idea to send an email to butikken[at]myken.no if you have any special requests for your stay.

Myken has a post office, and there is also a school and a library. Medical services are provided onboard the ’doctor boat’, a floating medical office that calls on Myken every second Tuesday. In case of emergency, the boat will normally be here in less than an hour.

Myken has its own reverse osmosis water production plant, supplying first class drinking water.
